An Act concerning English Servts
tht Runn away in Company of
Negroes or other Slaves.

Whereas divrs English Servts Runn away in Company wth
Negroes & other Slaves, who are incapeable of makeing Stis-
faccon by Addicon of Tyme Bee itt enacted by the Rt Hon.
noble the Lord Propryetary by & wth the consent of the vppr &
lowr howse of this p!sent genall Assembly tht any English Servt
or Servts tht shall run away in the Company of any Negroe or
other Slaves shalbe able to pay either Singly or pporconably
if more then one all such Just Dammage to the owners or
Mastrs of the same as shalbee made appeare before any Cort
of Record in this pvince

An Act Imposeing a Penalty on
all such who shall dispose of Tobacco
seized & reed by the Sherriffe or othrs

Whereas divers & great greiveances have happened within
this Province through the many cheates & deceipts tht many have
vsed in disposeing of & altering the markes & Quallityes of
Tobacco after the sayde Tobacco hath been seized and received
by the Sherriffe either for Fynes, Leavyes or his LoT Rente or
hath beene payd away to Merchants or others & by them
marked & received whereby both the Publique hath been much
abused and wronged and many private psons have recd great
damages in their sayd Goods Bee it therefore Enacted by the
Lord Proprietary by & wth the consent & Advice of the vppr &
lowr howse of this prsent genall Assembly tht what pson soever
shall dispose of any Tobacco or other Goods Seized on or
rec? by the Sherriffe for Fynes Leavyes or his Lopps Rent or
other Publique officr ffees or tht shall alter or Scratch out the
markes of any Tobacco soe recd or tht shall alter or change the
Quality of any Tobacco soe recd or by any Mercht or other rec?
either by vncaseing or otherwise shalbee lyable being con-
victed by confession or sufficient Witnes in some Cort of this
pvince to restore foure fold to the pty greived & to stand in the
Pillory two full hors dureing the Cor tyme wth his offence fairely
written in a peece of pap & placed vppon his backe.
