the murther of an Englishman by some Indians and this day
their honors mett to consider of the Contents thereof the which
Lre is as foll, vizt

Feb: 18th 1687/8.
Honrd Srs
This day I reced a Lre from Majr Long whereby he informes
me that two Nanticoke Indians upon the 15th instant assaulted
one Richard Enock and Francis Freeman of Middle River in
this County of Baltemore and much wounded both of them
and the said Enock's wife comeing to assist her said husband
they alsoe much wounded with their Tomahakes and the said
Enock is dead of his wounds & the other two dangerous bad.
Alsoe that Mr Francis Watkins hearing thereof went with four
of their Family to the Indian Cabbin that the Indians belonged
to and demanded the Murtherers but that the Indians kept
him off with their Gunns psented upon which he raised a file
or more of men & went again but the Indians were all gone
before he came, alsoe that there is about sixty of the Nanti-
cokes now has quarters about the Falls of Potapscoe where he
intendeth with a small force to goe & demand the said
Murtherers but I have advised him to take wth him more but
to use noe force untill he hath advice from your Honors but to
demand them in a peaceable way and that if they be delivered

anything: that happens before & after he receiveth Instructions

belong to and to use noe force untill further order but peace-
ably to demand the murtherers and ordered that the Lre soe
writt be inclosed in a Lre to Coll: Tailler for his pusall &
approbation the which Lre is as foll:

day wee are very sorry to hear such bad newes as
the Contents thereof import but wee are desirous
