[Circular to Members.]

Annapolis 23rd August 1775.
Sir.
As some of the gentlemen of the Council of Safety will be
at the adjourned provl Court the beginning of next week and
several will be obliged to set out for Philadelphia the latter
end of the week we propose a meeting of the Council on
Tuesday the 29th Inst, that the propositions may be received
for erecting a powder mill, salt and Saltpetre works and for
the manufacturing of arms or advertising for proper people to
undertake these things as well as endeavour to forward some
other matters directed by the convention.

Original.

[Bordley to Council.]

Gentlemen.
The not having sooner answered the letter, notifying the
appointment of me to be one of the Council of Safety, is
solely owing to the Pain it gives me to decline that Distinc-
tion, from the sense I have of my incapacity to answer the
expectations of the Gentlemen of the Convention, in the exe-
cution of that office.
