302 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1678-1679.
Lib. R. To wch Letter was added a Postscript requireing Capt
Brandt to examine Henry Hawkins touching some discourse
he had had with Thomas Alcock (as his Lspp was informed)
relateing to the murdr of the Indian.

At a Councill held at Mattapony Sewall the nineth Day of
June in the 5th yeare of the Dominion of the Rtt Honble Charles
&ca Annoq Dmi. 1680:

The Honble Ltt Coll Henry Darnall Present

Then conveened upon Receipt of a Letter from Capt Ran-
dolph Brandt of Charles County together with a note from
John Munns of the same County relateing to the Pascattoway
Indians and are asfoll. viz.

Rtt Honble
Your Lspps Commands of the first instant have sent forward
to Capt Aspinall, whom I undrstand was on his Journey before
the other ordr was sent John Munns. Inclosed have sent
your Lspp Munns pceedings relateing to the murdr of the
Indian which is all that cann be discovered at prsent; I shall
vse my utmost endeavor to make what Inquiry I cann, and
give accot thereof if any thing worth your Lspps notice, I have
duely examined Mr Hawkins as to what Thomas Alcock told
him, butt cannot discover any thing of the murdr it lies
betweene Aspinalls ffamily Alcocks, and the psons in the
Virginia Boate.
I undrstand by James Smallwood your Lspp is not fully Satis-
fied with what I formerly wrote concerning the answer of the
Pascattoways, they are very Desirous to remoove to Choptico
if with yor Lspps leave, wch was there request at our last meete-
ing in the prsence of Mr William Chandler, wch I did signifye
to your Lspp: and promised them your Lspps answer in four
Daies, if I have made any mistake in that pticular I humbly
begg your Lspps pardon; I suppose the greate men had been
downe ere this, but I heare the Susquehannohs and Sinniquos
have been fowle of them on ffriday last and have killed
seaven of their men, This Information I have from one James
Jefferson that came from the ffort and brought a horse from
thence lately shott with an arrow. I have nothing else but
the reprsentation of my due obedience Subscribe
