  "Resolved, That the several states hereafter named be required
forthwith to fill up by draughts from their militia, or in any other way
that shall be effectual, their respective battalions of continental
troops
   Maryland--8 battalions including the German Regiment."

   Whereas it has been represented by congress as absolutely neces
sary to use the most vigorous exertions to bring a powerful army into
the field the ensuing campaign, and it appearing to this assembly to be
the indispensable duty of this state to adopt the most effectual means
