state in the service of the United States, and to raise an additional regi
ment, if necessary, and the supplement thereto, at furthest, on or before
the fifteenth day of this instant July, proceed to class all property in their
respective counties, agreeable to the directions of said acts, into as many
classes as there are men wanted to complete said battalion or regiment,
and shall forthwith give notice to each class; and if recruits be not
procured or deserters taken up within eight days after such class hath
notice, shall proceed to order out the militia, agreeable to the directions
of this act, and the recruits obtained or the deserters taken up shall
forthwith be sent forward to the head of Elk, or other place of rendez
vous, and put under the care of proper officers to be appointed by the
governor and council, who are to march them with all expedition to
head quarters, or such other place of rendezvous as may be directed by
the commander in chief."

	John Clare, Jr., enlisted July 12th, 1780, by virtue of an "Act to
procure Recruits to complete the Battalions &c."
