brought in by Masters of shipps should be left with the
Collect' &c. That they then appoynt & Impower some other
pson or psons in every River to receive such Lres which is
thought will be of greate vse to the Inhabitants.
Quaerie whether the breeding of Indian youth in scholes &
fitting them for the Vniversity in Virg^a will not be one good
end and to effect the Conversion of the Indians.
Brought from the house of Delegates the following
Resolves Viz^t

By the house of Delegates June 11^th 1697.

It is ordered by this house that noe pson whatsoever pre-
sume to smoake tobacco in the new state house or in any of
the Roomes or offices thereto belonging vnder the penalty of
10^s to his Ma^ty for Repairing the said State house. This ord^r
to be affixed at the door of the said State house.

Resolved by this house that it will be for his Ma^tys Service
that the shipps in the Country (after the men of warr are gone
out of Virg^a) be pmitted to sayle.
Assented to by his Ex^cy & his Ma^tys hon^ble
Councill & ordered accordingly

Resolved by this house that the psons appoynted to
Apporcon the publick Leavy be hereby Impowred to order
the paym^t of severall sumes of money to the severall "psons
that are allowed the same This sessions vpon the Journall of
the Comittee of Accounts out of the Publick Treasurers hands.

A Bill for Apportioning the public Leavy read second time
& assented to by his Ma^tys hon^ble Council
Then read the following Vote & Resolve of the house
brought by Maj^r Dent, M^r Blay & M^r fferry (with the afore-
menconed Bill) in relacon to the publick Armes & powder in
order to be passed into an ordinance Viz^t

Voted & Resolved that the Kings Armes & Country armes
(distributed according to order of his Ex^cy the Govern^r &
Council) be kept well fixed & in good repaire at the Country
charge as also the carrying & removing to those places where
they are lodged That the officer with whome the Armes
powder or Amunicon is or shall be lodged by order of his
Ex^cy doe give two receipts for the same one to his Ex^cy the
Govern^t another to be kept amongst the Councill Records
