          Lib. H. D.     person that came up found the boddy with the head & his

                right arm cutt off to his Elbow and both carryed away with

                his Musquett Powder and Shott bagg and further this

                deponent sayeth not.

                  And on the back of the above Deposition was thus

                endorsed

            At the Port of Annapolis October the 13th 1697.

                  Then came the within named Iames Waple before his

                EXnCY in Councill and made Oath upon the Holy Evangelist

                that the within deposition is truth

                  By virtue of a Deputation granted me by the Honoble the

                Commissioners of his Majtes Customes in London bearing

                date the 15th day of October 1691. And in pursuance like

                wise of additional Articles of Instructions from their Honors

                Dated at the Custom House in London the 22 Septr 1697.

                Directing me amongst other things, that in case of any

                vacancy by the death or want of any of the Officers of

                the Customes, or otherwise to depute and impower some

                fitt and able person to serve therein, and finding great

                want of an Officer of the Customes in Pocomoke River

                & Bay on the Eastern Shore of the Province of Maryland

                also in the said River of Pocomoke on the Eastern Shore of

                the Colony of Virginia, I doe hereby depute and impower

                you the said Edward Price to be Surveyor and Searcher of all

                the Rates, Dutyes, & Impositions, arising & growing due to

                his Maty in Pocomoke River and Bay on the Eastern Shore

                of the Province of Maryland and also in the said River of

                Pocomoke on the Eastern Shore of the Colony of Virginia,

                and likewise in all Bayes, Creeks, Harbours, Rivers, and

                Islands, thereunto adjacent or belonging, by virtue of an Act

                of Parliament made in the year of the Reign of King

                Charles the Second, Entituled an Act for encouragement of

                the Eastland and Greenland Trades, and for the better

                securing the Plantation Trade Whereby you have authority

                to enter into any Ship, bottom, Boat, or other Vessell, as also

                into any Shop, House, Warehouse, hostry or other place

                whatsoever, to make diligent search into any Trunck, Chest,

                pack, case, Truss, or any other parcell or package what
