    the honble      Thomas Tench Esqr

                    George Plater                Esqrs being sent

                    Kenelm Cheseldyn Esqr           for came

   

      Mrs Meech the Widow of Captain Thomas Meech dec'd

    who was lately employed to cruise within this Province to

    prevent & discover illegal traders appearing at the Board

    produces a Letter of the 16th of 8ber 1697 writt to her by Mr

    Philip Clark of St Marys County wherein he gives her an

    accot that her late husband had spent above four hundred

    pounds in that Employment besides his loss of time

      And desiring to have satisfaction therefore she is told that

    her husband undertook that service upon a Certain Agree

    ment which he made with his Excellency the Govr & which

    said Agreement is entred upon the Council Book to which

    she is referred

      Ordered that the Clk of this Board shew Mrs Meech the

    said agreement upon the Council Book to morrow morning

      Several Papers relating to this matter were the same time      p. 150

    read to Mrs Meech

      George Layfield Esqr late Collector of the District of Po

    comoke makes oath to an accot of the 1d p h on Tobacco

    in Potomack district from the 18th of 7ber 1696 to the 6th of

    Iuly 1696

      The Petition of Mr William Sharp of Talbott County read

    praying that two Actions now depending before his Excel

    lency the Governor & the Council upon appeals & writts of

    Errors might be continued till the Assembly being read is

    granted

      George Plater Esqr delivers for his Excllcys use upon the

    Accot of the 3d for Arms two sets of Bills of Exchange one

    drawn by Mr William Sharp on Sir John Duddleston of Bristol

    for 50 l Sterl thus endorsed memd the within Bill for the 1s 3d

    p hhd 3d p Tun & Coll fees the duty on tobacco to be paid

    according to the Quantity of Tobacco entred that year at the

    custom house in Bristol Ship Iohn & Susannah Wm lones
