able or if Negroes the Profit of their Labour must be the
Sheriffs And altho' the Wisdom of the Kingdom of England
never thought meet to make such an Act there being many
Markets and many Buyers yet we know several Acts of the
like Nature to this in the English Plantations and why this
Province should be denied the Liberty that others are allowed
we know not unless it be to satisfy the covetous Desires of a
few Merciless Creditors and Mercenary Officers and to bring
the Commonality into Poverty and Slavery out of which we
have and Hope always shall endeavour to keep them tho' at
present it's not in our Power hardly obtaining any Thing that
tends thereto
