My Lords. Having Taken into our serious Consideration

that part of your Lordships Speech relateing to the Applica-
tion of the 12^d p hogshead to your Leivt^t Governour for the
time being, We must humbly Confess, that Zeal for our
Present Governour in whose pson We found that the Protest-
ant Interest of Maryland was designed to be Attackt Carryed
us a greater length in that Affair than we should otherwise

have gone, nor have we any thing more to plead for Justifica-
tion therein Than that as the Generall Assembly had made
the application of that whole twelve pence p hogshead Origin-
ally designed for the support of Government unto your Lord-
ships Leivt^t Governour only so did they in like manner take
Care to defray the Comon & Emergent necessities of Govern-
ment without suffering any Charge at all to be laid upon any
of the several branches of your Lordships Revenue within
this pvince.
But forasmuch as your Lordships are of Opinion that the
twelve pence p hogshead be applyed towards the maintaining
the Station & Dignity of your Lordships Leivten^t Gov^r Actu-
ally Inhabiting and Residing w^thin this Province And to other
necessary uses towards the Support & defence of this Prov-
ince. We together with the lower house by An Act made
this Present Session of Assembly have fallen entirely into your
Lordships measures, And must at the Same time make our

humble Acknowledgments to your Lordships for putting us in
mind of the only Proper Application of that branch of the
Revenue.
We are sensible of your Lordships favour & good Will in
Consenting to An Act tending so much to the relief of the poor
& more numerous part of your Lordships tenants And shall
at all times think it our duty to engage the people's Affections
to your Lordships by Letting them know your good Inclina-
tions to secure the Liberties of English men unto them to
ease them in the payment of their rents and to advance the
Trade of this Province
My Lords: We take upon ourselves in the last place to
assure you that we are fully resolved to pserve a gratefull
resentment of all your Lordships Condescentions to us And
that it shall be our Constant Endeavours as much as in us lies
to Cultivate Peace & Unity among the Inhabitants of this our
Province of what psuation soever that with one heart we
may all applaud the Wisdom & Conduct of our Lord Prop^ry
and his noble Guardian And with one mind Imploy our Joint
