under your Lordships Authority left us nothing to wish for, but
your Lordships presence amongst us, which might Animate our
Endeavours for the good of the Province, and save us from the
Impending Ruine of a Sinking Trade
Through a Tender and Generous care for the Prosperity of Mary-
land your Lordship not only Honours your Province by being in it,
but assures us by your Gracious Speech, that the Purpose of your
Voyage was to promote the Welfare of it, A Purpose Worthy of a
Lord Proprietary of Maryland! and ariseing peculiarly from the
well known kind Disposition of your Lordship for the Happiness of

Mankind, This is the more Conspicuous by. your Lordships Humane
Recommendation of Considering the Ill State of the Goals; Thus
your Lordship justly Secures to your selfe the Prayers and good
Wishes of the Poor and Distressed, on the one hand, And the Ap-
plause of the more happy and Fortunate on the other
Nor does your Lordships Vigilant regard towards your Faithfull
Tenants Stop here; But at the Same time that your Lordship Mani-
fests your Noble Intentions for our Happiness within, you Ingage
us to Provide for our Security against any Attempts from without,
by such motives as must Necessarily Command our utmost appli-
cation to regulate our Militia; for nothing Could more forcibly pre-
vaile with us in this Particular, Than our Inviolable Duty to the best
of Kings, And our firm Attachment to the most Deserving Proprie-
tary, under whom our Property is so Effectually preserved; By a
proper Regulation of the Militia, We shall be the better able to
Defend His Majesties Empire over this Province, The Continuance
of which We have the Greatest reason to Contend for, and your
Lordships Government thereof, Which is so Dear to all Well Wishers
of Maryland.

Order to the Preparation of a Bill for that purpose, propose a Con-
ference with your House
