Gentlemen
The Poverty of the Province and the Low Circumstances of the
People, require the best Endeavours of the Legislative power to
Apply some Ease and relief to the great burthen of Levies, which
the Poor Labour under every year; and as no one Article Con-
tributes more to the Increase of a Publick Levie than the Great
Charge of Assemblies, and none ought to be more ready in shewing
their Commiseration for the unhappiness of the Inhabitants, than
those persons, who by a Seat in either of the Houses of Assembly,
must be presumed to have the Good of the Province most at heart.
Therefore this house proposes to your house, and is desirous, the
usual Allowance to the Members of both Houses be Either taken
away, or reduced to halfe by an Act of Assembly
