Instructions to Saml Ogle Esqre our Lieuten' Governor & Chancellor.
Whereas an Address has been to me by the Upper & Lower House
of Assembly, that a sum of mony may be raised in lieu of my Quit
Rents & Alienation Fines, you are directed to proceed as follows :
Ist You shall consider what Equivalent the Legislature of Mary-
land can give instead of my Alienation Fines & Quit-Rents.
2d You must take care th' such Equivalent tend not to Burthen the
Trade of his Majesty's Subjects trading to Maryland.
3d You shall not give yr consent to any Bill for the same Equiva-
lent, but first send the Draught of the Bill over to me, & take my
directions therein
Given under our Hand & Seal at London this 14th day of Decber

Instructts to Benj: Tasker our Agent or General Receiver
1st You shall not for the future allow the Collectors of the Revenue
their Deductions, till they Produce you a fair Copy of their respec-
tive Rent-Roils, with the non-payments, & such other animadversions
as you shall direct, but inserted therein.
2. You shall not allow the genl Rent-Roll Keepers their Per-
quisites Sallerys or Deductions till you shall be satisfy'd they have
made the Alterations in the sa genl Rent-Rolls necessary to be made
every year according to the Alienations & such other Entrys as you
shall think convenient to be made
3. You shall Direct the Collectors of the Rent to Demand an
Alienation Fine on the Death of the Possessors of all Land; as you
will find it the Opinion of the Lawyers here I am Intituled to, brought
by Mr Jenings.
4. You shall not take foreign Gold at above £3: 14: 6 pr ounce, &
silver at 5C. that being the price it bears here.
Given under our hand & Seal at London this 14th day of Decber
