my Reasons for it and what I had stopt for his Bounty and Clothing
as the Clothing was much defacd and as he the Comd* had disap-
proved of his Inlistment I thought it was my duty to discharge him
the Comd* then in presence of Capt Tannehill said he had disap-
provd of his Inlistment and if he knew of any prisoners there he
wood imediately have them sent of and told me he wood order a
Cort of Inquiry and I shood have a hearing I then told the Comd'
it was my wish as I wishd to have the matter setled and waited some-
time Capt Tannehill made know objection I then took leave and
walkd out Capt Tannehill Amediately returnd to his Quarters and
made out a report and had me Arested in this Cruel manner and
took every Advantage of me in the Cort as I have been Informd
since by one of the Officers that was on the Cort went so far as to
have two officers taking of the Cort and have Two others put on
that Envyed me as much as himself.
Gentlemen from my slite Acquaintance cannot with propriety Re-
quest the Favour of your Riting his Excellency and Represent in
the most Cruel Manner Capt Tannehill has Attempted to sacrifice
my Reputation.
Mr Magruder who hands you this I think if you'l only Ask him
can Acquaint you that Capt Tannehill has Attempted to take the
Advantage of me Frequently before this and notwithstanding I
made it Appear to the Cort by the Comdts Evidence that he had dis-
approvd of McCleods the Prisoner and declared if knew of A British
Prisoner there he wood have them Amediately sent of and made it
Apear by Capt Tannehills Books the Clothing he had Receivd was
paid him as part of his Bounty and in the publick manner I dis-
chargd him am Affraid the Matter has gone Against me
I acknowledge I have done Rong in Misting the Fellow and in
order to put myself Right have layd myself in the power of Capt.
Tannehill its Cruel after serving my Country Almost five years and
spent at least half my Fortune that I should now fall a sacrifice to
that Gentleman's Envy and as I am a stranger to his Excellency
must beg the Favour of your Riting him your Favours ever shall
be most Greatfully Acknowledgd

Dr Sir. From an illness I have labored under these 6 Weeks I can
at this time scarcely hold a Pen. I had Dawlass, Russia Shirting
Ravens Duck and the best osnaburghs that ever I beheld and the
properest for soldiers shirting of any Linnen I ever saw. But the
Governor of Virga had appointed 2 Commissioners in this County
to Purchase or siege all such Goods as Government wants, and Yes-
terdav they bought everything that I had. Capt .... has shoes.
