Was I not sensible Sir, of the importance of this Expedition, of
the Happy effect it may Have for the advantage of all the states and
the more particular interest of some, I would not presume to trouble
your Excellency with a minute details of our boats. But unless the
afore mentioned articles are sent to this place with the Greatest
dispatch, it is my duty to observe to Your Excellency that delay will
Render our expedition very precarious. My uneasiness on this Head
Has Been increased By a Late Letter Received from the Commander
in chief, wherein He urges the necessity of Embarking immediately,
and from the nature of His plan observes the Great inconvenience of
delay
Having laid our circumstances Before your Excellency and Hav-
ing taken the liberty to observe [damaged] .

[Stephen Stewart, West River, to the Council.]

this is to Give you the Earlyest notice that Jeams tucker is Com
home and that Capt John Harrison was Careyd to Charles town Put
on board of prison ship him and all his Crew whare Many ware
Pereshed to Deth Harrison is got as far as Eden town on his way
up now is there sick his Crew are still all on board of Prison Ships
thats alive Excepting one that maid his Escape by swimming and
has Got home Tucker Promised me to Com to you this Day he Can
Give you good Information he left the British fleet Sunday when the
french fleet left James River Munday week and went Down to the
Capes I am very thankful to you for the trubell you have been at to
Get my People Exchanged

I have been repeatedly called on by Detachments of Continental
as well as State Troops on their march to Southern Army, for Pro-
visions and Forage &c it has so happened that high Winds and
badness of wether prevented them geting to a Regular post to draw
the same.
Shall Esteem it a particular favour for your Orders how to pro-
ceed on like occations, I have Issued some Forage to Cap^t Golder &
Cap^t Brown of Arti^ry Inclosed is a Coppy of Orders from Brig^r
Gen^l Morgan in favour of M^r Will^m Dent Formerly a Resident of
this County — who is now here — drove by the Enemy with his Wife &
