field officers to supply the Vacancies in the Salisbury Battalion
of Militia in Somerset County.

For the Barren Creek Compy, McKimmey Porter Ensign.
For the Quantico Company, Edward Kellum Ist Lieut; Joseph

For the Quantico Compy, Joseph Wails Ensgn.
For The Nanticoke Point Compy, John McClester Capt, Jno Evans
(of Nicholas) 1st Lt, Wm Stewart 2nd Lieut, Wm Waller Ensgn.

[Saml. Huntington, President Philadelphia to His Excellency
Governor Lee]

Your Excellency will receive herewith enclosed, an Ordinance
for establishing Courts for the Trial of Piracies and Felonies com-
mitted upon the high Seas, passed in Conformity to Articles of
Confederation.

P. S. I have been Honoured with your Excellencys dispatches of
the 23d March & 8th instant.

[Joseph Ford, Leonard Town, to Gov. Lee.] (p Mr. Mills)

What flesh provisions I procured, was sent Agreeable to your
Excellencies order to George Town except Two Steers that I Re-
ceived since my last appointment which I have delivered to the Mili-
tia hereby Coll Barne's orders we have had constantly on duty for
this Two weeks about Two Hundred men, I have furnished them
so far with provisions, but it has been with some difficulty as I had
no money. I am indebted between four and five Thousand Pounds
continental money and what further sum may be necessary depends
on the time the Militia may be on duty If it can be conveniently spared
I should be glad of about Two Hundred & fifty pounds of the new
money what may with safty be sent by the Barer Mr John Mills, A
circumstance which I did not think to mention to your Honorable
Board, Respecting the Horse that I Received of the Reverend Mr
Stephens a nonjuror now occurs that some time after I returned with
him, he got into a neighbours Wheat field several times, at lenght he
came home with his back bones nearly in two this together with the
bad character he had got before was the Reason he sold so low, of this
if it should be necessary I can procure the Vouchers of some Re-
spectable People for, the Horse was so great a Rogue that I had come
