the Copy of the Classes, the Recruits arrived here yesterday Evening
but I thot it necessary to date their enlistment the 5th to entitle them
to pay from that date as it appeared by the returns made by Col.
Barrett that they had enlisted on or about that day, the Twelve Rects
which appeared I have ordered to Annapolis under the care and
Command of Philip Anthony & Andrew Reede two of the number,
and shall forward the others as soon as they come under my care.

September 18

[Chas. Blake, Corsica, to His Ex: Thos S. Lee Esqr]

I this moment Recd your orders about the Cattle our battallion
meetts this day and I'll endeavour to have some cattle ready as soon
as possible but it is impossible to have these at the time and place; if
yr Ex. will order a Vessel in Wye to Mr Boardleys I will put sixty on
board immediately and have some sent to Kent point please to order
an express to be immediately from Wye as soon as the Vessel arrives
if one comes. Every thing in my Power shall be done, but I cannot
possibly have them there by the time allowed as they are not collected.
I will endeavour to gett what Sheep I can.
[P. S.] I am apprehensive that very few more can be had as there
have [been] drovers come down with Gold.

[P. Thomas, Annapolis to The Honble John Stone Esqr, presdt of
the Council]

I am under the necessity of requesting your Honble Board to Ac-
cept my resignation as a Justice of the Peace of Frederick County and
as one of the Judges of the Orphans Court of the said County —
My only Reasons for this Step are that I am in a very weak State of
Health and have really more business, Public & private, than I can
possibly manage with propriety — I shall always be happy in render-
ing the Public every Service in my power and entertain a due sense
of the Honors conferred on me

September 19

[Theodore Middleton, to His Excellency Thos. S. Lee]

As a considerable time has elapsed since I had the Honor of hear-
ing from you, concerning the raising the compy of infantry for the
defence of the Bay, I should be glad to know if you still propose that
corps to be raised, If not, I must Sollicit your Excellency In an ap-
pointment in the first com. that may be recruited.

September 20

[Thos. Beall of Geo. for T. Richardson Geo. Town, to His
Excellency Thos. S. Lee Esqr]

I am Happy to inform you that altho the short Notice I had to pro-
cure Hay Oats Corn &c &c that there has been a plenty; Provided for
all the Horses Oxen &c that came this way; as to Vessells to Trans-
port flour I wrote you by Mr Cary; there came up here last night 3
