This Service performed, Capt. Baques and the Soldiers must be
returned and you will again recur to our former Orders for your
Government. It will be proper that you leave some Person to engage
the Men you may want, against your Return.

[Council to Honble Intendant]

We requested your Attention to the Subject of our Letter of the
24^th, that the Public might not twice pay the same Debt. We are
satisfied by your Reasoning, as to the Time for which the nine Months
Men must be paid by the State, but cannot admit any of the Vouchers
to be sufficient, except the one which is signed by the Man to whom
the Money is due.

We are honored with your Letters of the 15^th and 17^th Instant
We have not Time to reply to your Enquiry respecting Chiney by
this Opportunity, but will give you full Information on the Subject
by next Post, when the Duplicate of the Recommendation referred to
by General Gist, shall be forwarded. We are much obliged by the
Information you favor us with.

Saturday 27^th April 1782

Ordered that the western shore Treasurer pay to John Shelby
nine pounds, sixteen shillings and eight pence. John Dove for the use
of Moses Morelick twelve pounds, six shillings and eight pence. Za-
dock Riston fifteen Pounds, five shillings and Abraham Gorman to
be delivered over to Zekiel Meek fifty three Pounds, fourteen shillings
of the Bills emitted under the Act for the Emission of Bills of Credit
&^ca due them per Accounts passed.
That the said Treasurer pay to James Brice one hundred and ten
Pounds of the same Emission on Account of his Salary to be ac-
counted for.
Commission issued to Edward Wilder appointed Coronor of
Charles County in the room of Moses Hobart deceased.

We received your Letter of the 23^d April 1782. The Naval Officer
must be governed by the Law and we do not think ourselves author-
ized to give the Order you request. The French Agents will not be
burthened with any Imposts or Duties, to which the Subjects of this
State are not liable, and it does not appear reasonable they should
enjoy more extensive Immunities : However as we have no Power
to dispense with any Regulation established by Law, it must be sub-
mitted to until the Legislature think proper to change it. We ob-
