tion to which it is entitled, I earnestly request you to in-
troduce early all important bills. I again thank you for
the honor you have conferred upon me, and confidently
ask for yonr kind indulgence and support.
I am now ready to declare in order any motion for the
permanent organization of the Senate.
On motion of Mr. Williams, of Harford,
The addressof the President was ordered spread upon
the Journal.
On motion of Mr. Williams, of Harford, it was
Ordered, That the thanks of this Senate are hereby
tendered to the Hon. William F. Applegarth for the
able and dignified manner in which he has discharged
the duties of President, pro tem, of the Senate.
The Senate prcceeded to the election of Secretary of
the Senate.
Mr. Betts nominated Mr. Alfred Ritter of Frederick
county.
The nomination was seconded by Mr. Moses.
Mr. Dick nominated Mr. Oscar L. Quinlan of Baltimore
city.

The nomination was seconded by Mr. Wilkinson.
