    Mr. David Shriver, a delegate returned for Frederick county, appeared, and after qualifying
in the mode prescribed by the constitution and form of government, and taking the oath to support
the constitution of the United States, took his seat in the house.
    Petitions from George Boner, of Frederick county, Henry Tate, of Queen-Anne's county,
John C. Hynson, junior, and Ringgold Hynson, of Kent county, Matthew Greentree, of Kent
county, Vernon Smith, of Charles county, Robert Dixon and James Coursey, of Caroline county,
Amos Ash, William Myers, Richard Warner, William Delarfire, John Doyle, John Kirwan,

    THE committee to whom was referred the petition of Hugh McColl, of Dorchester county,
report, that they have taken the same into consideration, and are of opinion that the prayer of
the petitioner is reasonable, and ought to be granted, and that a law may pass to carry the same
into effect.  All which is submitted.

    A petition from John Summers and John Aulabaugh, of Washington county, praying an act
may pass authorising commissioners to alter and amend the roads from Turner's Gap to William's
Port, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Geoghegan, Mr. Cellar and Mr. McClain, to
consider and report thereon.
    A petition from Conrad Snavely, of Washington county, stating, that the commissioners under
the act of assembly for streightening and widening the roads in said county from Swearingen's
ferry to the top of the South Mountain, have laid a very considerable distance of said road through
his plantation, to his great injury, and praying that the road may continue in its old course, was
preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Geoghegan, Mr. Cellar and Mr. McClain, to consider and
report thereon.
    On motion, ORDERED, That Mr. Carroll, Mr. Hall, Mr. Key, Mr. Digges and Mr. McPherson,
be a committee to inquire what laws have expired or will expire with the session.
    Mr. Hall, from the committee, brings and delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act to
settle and ascertain the salary of the members of the council for the ensuing year; which was
read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.
    A petition from the mayor and city council of the city of Baltimore, praying an act may pass
to enable the corporation to erect the necessary works on the springs and streams of water capable
of being introduced into the city of Baltimore, to protect the inhabitants against fire, to cleanse
the streets and promote the health and convenience of the citizens thereof, was preferred and
read.  The house proceeded to ballot for a committee to report on the said petition, and the ballots
being deposited in the ballot box, the gentlemen named to strike retired, and after some time
reported, that Mr. Buchanan, Mr. Key, Mr. Duckett, Mr. Johonnot and Mr. Love, were elected.
