ary 13, 1904, and immediately commenced the practice of law
in Hagerstown. In April, 1904, lie was appointed City Attorney
for Hagerstown, serving until July 1906. In the Fall of 1907
he was elected State's Attorney for Washington County, serv-
ing one term, from January 1st, 1908, to January 1st, 1912.
From that date Mr. Armstrong has devoted his entire time to
private practice, his work taking him before the Courts and
Commissions of Maryland and also before the Federal Court
of Baltimore. The law offices in Hagerstown, with which Mr.
Armstrong is still connected, are conducted under the name of
Armstrong and Scott. In September, 1919, Mr. Armstrong
was nominated by the Republican State Convention for At-
torney General of Maryland and was elected to that office on
November 4th, 1919. Mr. Armstrong was married to Miss
Mary Rebekah Woods, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Hiram
Woods of Baltimore City, on January 25, 1911. They have
one son, Alexander Armstrong, Jr.

The Adjutant General: HENRY M. WARFIELD (Democrat),

Baltimore County.

Henry M. Warfield, the twenty-first Adjutant General of
Maryland, was born in Baltimore July 1, 1867. He is a son
of the late Henry M. Warfield, who was a member of the State
Legislature of 1861, and the candidate for Mayor of Baltimore
on the reform ticket in 1875. General Warfield's connection
with the National Guard of Maryland dates from November I,
1885, when he enlisted as a private in Company K, 5th In-
fantry, serving as such until November 1, 1888, the date of his
election as 2nd Lieutenant of that company. He was elected
1st Lieutenant, Company F, 5th Infantry, April ]6, 1891,
serving in this position until commissioned Captain and In-
spector of Rifle Practice on the Regimental Staff, March 14,
1892. He was elected Captain Company B, 5th Infantry, De-
cember 12th, 1892, and Major 5th Infantry, October 28th,
1895. He served as a Major in this Regiment until June 30th,
1903, on which date he was elected and commissioned Colonel
of the Regiment, holding this position until appointed Adju-
tant General by His Excellency, Governor Crothers, January
22nd, 1908. General Warfield was again appointed Adjutant
General by Governor Harrington, March 3rd, 1916.

During the Spanish-American War he was mustered into
the service of the United States as Major in the 5th Maryland
