TUBERCULOSIS HOSPITALS
Victor F. Cullen State Hospital
1. B. Lyons, M.D., Acting Superintendent

State Sanatorium (Frederick County) Telephone: Highfield 91

This institution was established in 1908, formerly known as the
State Sanatorium, the name was changed by the Board of Public
Works in 1949. The hospital provides for the care of patients in all
stages of tuberculosis; the average number of patients is 350.

Staff: 254.

Henryton State Hospital

Elmer P. Sauer, M.D., Medical Director and Acting Superintendent
Sykesville (Carroll County) Telephone: Sykesville 175

This hospital was established in 1923. It provides for the care of
391 colored patients in all stages of tuberculosis.

Staff: 203.

Mount Wilson State Hospital

William Newcomer, M.D., Superintendent

Mount Wilson (Baltimore County) Telephone: Pikesville 68
Mount Wilson was established in 1925. It provides for the care of
209 patients in all stages of tuberculosis.

Staff: 111.

Pine Bluff State Hospital

Seth H. Hurdle, M.D., Acting Superintendent

Salisbury (Wicomico County) Telephone: Salisbury 705

Pine Bluff State Hospital, also known as the Eastern Shore Branch,
was established in 1928. It provides for the care of approximately
sixty patients.

The total appropriation for the four tuberculosis hospitals is ad-

tal on a basis of need.

RITCHIE HOSPITAL

Fort Ritchie (Washington County) Telephone: Highfield 225

Ritchie Hospital, located near the summit of the Blue Ridge Moun-
tains, has been in operation since the fall of 1947. It functions under
the Bureau of Medical Services and Hospitals. The hospital is for the
