Mount Wilson was established in 1925. It provides for the care of
525 patients in all stages of tuberculosis.

Pine Bluff State Hospital

Pine Bluff State Hospital, also known as the Eastern Shore
Branch, was established in 1928. It provides for the care of 65
patients.

Montebello State Hospital

Montebello is the principal unit of three Chronic Disease Hospi-
tals established for patients who cannot obtain the special facilities
required for their care elsewhere in Maryland. Its principal em-
phasis is on rehabilitation. It is operated under the supervision
of the Bureau of Medical Services and Hospitals. Its bed capacity is
314. An additional 180-bed wing has been authorized.

Staff (authorized for 1958); 319.

Deer's Head State Hospital
Salisbury (Wicomico County) Telephone: Pioneer 2-2164

Deer's Head State Hospital is the first unit of the three Chronic
Disease Hospitals. It is operated under the supervision of the Bu-
reau of Medical Services and Hospitals. Its bed capacity is 284.

Staff (authorized for 1958): 223.

Western Maryland State Hospital
Hagerstown (Washington County) Telephone: Regent 9-6300

Western Maryland State Hospital is the third unit of the three
Chronic Disease Hospitals. It is operated under the supervision of
the Bureau of Medical Services and Hospitals. It opened on July
1, 1957 with a bed capacity of 298.
Staff (authorized for 1958): 233.
