MARYLAND MANUAL 107
of the bottoms of the bay and its tributaries. This survey, completed
in 1912, is the basis of present-day Acts.
The Legislatures of 1960 and 1961 passed bills extending the author-
ity of the Commission in several directions. By Chapter 69, Acts of
1960, the Commission became the administrative agency for the Boat
Act, which governs the numbering of boats and safety regulations
on the tidal waters of the State. By Chapter 825, Acts of 1961, the
Commission was empowered to grow large quantities of seed oysters,
and to provide for a resurvey of the bottoms of the tidewaters of the
State. This resurvey is now underway.
The Department of Tidewater Fisheries has a close relation with
the Board of Natural Resources, which is composed of the heads of
the various departments relating to the resources of the State and
eight members appointed by the Governor. The present law provides
that the Director of the Department of Tidewater Fisheries shall be
Chairman of this Board (Code 1957, Art. 66C).
