At the request of the General Assembly, the
Governor established the Solid Waste Disposal Task
Force in October 1987 (Joint Resolution no. 8,
Acts of 1987). The Task Force reviewed reports on
solid waste disposal and made recommendations on
the feasibility of establishing regional solid waste
disposal facilities in a cooperative municipal, county,
and State effort. The Task Force reported to the
Governor in December 1988.

LINES IN ANNAPOLIS

In January 1987, the Governor created the Ad-
visory Committee on Utility Lines in Annapolis.
The Committee explored possibilities of funding
underground utility lines in Annapolis over a period
of years.

Within the Historic District of Annapolis, the
project of putting utility lines underground begins
in June 1989. By December 1989, work should be
completed on School Street, State Circle, and Fran-
cis Street.

The Advisory Committee has been inactive since
1988 when the General Assembly appropriated
funds for the project.
