The Interagency Committee on Aging Services was
formed within the Executive Department in 1982
(Chapters 101 and 330, Acts of 1982). The Commit-
tee develops and updates a plan to coordinate State and
local health and sodal services for Maryland's elderly
The Committee consists of the Director on Aging,
the Secretaries of Economic and Employment
Development, Health and Mental Hygiene, Housing
and Community Development, Human Resources,
and Transportation. The Director on Aging serves as
chairperson (Code 1957, Art. 70B, sees. 4A-4H).

The State Archives is the historical agency for
Maryland. It serves as the central depository for
government records of permanent value. These
records date back to the founding of the Maryland
colony in 1634. Among the Archives holdings are
colonial and State executive, legislative, and judicial
records; county probate, land, and court records;
church records; business records; State publications
and reports; and special collections of private
papers, maps, photographs, and newspapers.
Records are stored in a humidity- and temperature-
controlled stack area. Preservation measures, in-
cluding deacidification, lamination, mylar
encapsulation, and archival bookbinding are carried
out by the staff of an in-house conservation
laboratory Records are made accessible to the
public in a search room open six days each week,
through photocopies produced by an in-house
photolab, and through the interlibrary loan of
microform.
The origins of the State Archives can be traced
to the State's tercentenary celebrations in 1934. As
the 300th anniversary of the founding of the
Maryland colony approached, the Maryland Ter-
