The Veterans Memorials and Monuments Pro-
gram was established in 1989 (Chapter 790, Acts
of 1989). At that time, responsibility for ad-
ministration of the Maryland Vietnam Veterans
Memorial was transferred from the Maryland Viet-
nam Veterans Memorial Commission to the
Maryland Veterans Commission. Responsibility for
administration of the Maryland Korean War
Memorial also was reassigned from the Korean War
Memorial Commission to the Maryland Veterans
Commission in 1989.
The Maryland Vietnam Veterans Memorial
(dedicated May 28, 1989) and the Maryland
Korean War Memorial (dedicated May 27, 1990)
never close. Open to the public 365 days a year,
these memorials are operated and cared for by the
Maryland Veterans Commission (Code State
Government Article, sec. 9-915).

MANDATED REPORTS

Annual Report to Governor & General Assembly.

The Maryland Veterans Home Commission was
created in 1975 to provide a home for veterans in
the State of Maryland (Chapter 575, Acts of 1975).
The Maryland home, known as the Charlotte Hall
Veterans Home, is located at Charlotte Hall, St.
Mary's County The domiciliary/residential care
wing opened in January 1985, followed in March
1986 by the comprehensive nursing care wing.
The Commission maintains, manages, and governs
Charlotte Hall Veterans Home. Applications for
residency in the Home may be secured from the
Commission or Charlotte Hall Veterans Home.
The Commission consists of fifteen members.
Four serve ex officio. Eleven are appointed to four-
year terms by the Governor with Senate advice and
consent (Code State Government Article, sees. 9-
917 through 9-930).
