An ACT for the payment of the journal of accounts, and for other purposes.
The treasurer may give certificates
to such of the creditors as will receive them, payable with interest
in three years from the date. These certificates are to be a tender
equally with bills of credit, and to be
discountable out of the public assessment. To counterfeit any of
them, or to offer in payment a counterfeit,
knowing it to be such, is punishable in the manner heretofore directed.
A Supplement to the act for the payment of the journal of accounts,
and for other purposes.
| BE it enacted,
by the general assembly of Maryland, That if any subject of
this state shall, within or without this state, and if any person whatsoever
shall, within this state, forge or counterfeit any certificate issued in
of the said act, entitled, An act for the payment of the journal of accounts,
for other purposes, or shall alter the sum expressed in any of the said
or shall pass in payment any such counterfeit or altered certificate, knowing
same to be counterfeit or altered, and shall be thereof convicted in the
court of this state, or shall stand
mute, or peremptorily challenge above the number
of twenty of the pannel, such person shall suffer death as a felon, without
benefit of clergy.

MARYLAND, begun and held at the city of ANNAPOLIS,
on Monday the eighth of June, in the
year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and
seventy-eight, and ended the 23d day of the same
month: The following laws were enacted.

An ACT relating to prisoners and deserters from the British army and
Deserters to be exempt from all militia
duty, during the war; and they, as well as prisoners, are disqualified
from acting as substitutes; and every contract they may enter into, to
oblige themselves to act
as such, shall be void. But they may, notwithstanding, retain any
money given to them in virtue of
such contracts with persons who knew them to be deserters or prisoners.
An ACT to aid the proceedings of the commissioners of the tax, and

An ACT to prohibit for a limited time, the exportation of wheat, flour,
corn, rice, bread, beef, pork,
bacon, live stock, and other victual.

Any number of the visitors, not less
than three, who have taken the oath of fidelity and support to this
state, may manage the affairs of the school, and execute all the powers
of the corporation, until some
three or more shall have met, and elected so many other visitors as are
required to complete their full
number. This election they are enjoined to make on or before the
15th of July next, out of the inhabitants
of the state, duly qualified, who have taken the oath aforesaid.
