        Whereupon the President delivered one of the certificates
and lists prepaired, signed, sealed and addressed, to
Hon. H. N. Goldsborough (one of the Electors) to be by him deposited
in the Post Office in the City of Annapolis; also one
other of the said certificates and lists to R. Stroker Matthews
Esq. (another of the Electors) to be conveyed and delivered
by him to the Judge of the District Court of the United States
for the District of Maryland.
        The following form of Credentials was read and adopted,
and on motion of Mr. Sands the blank was filled with
the name of James W. Clayton of Cecil County.
                State of Maryland To Wit
    To all persons whom it may concern.
                Know ye that we the Electors of President and Vice
President of the United States of America, duly elected in
and for the State of Maryland, having met at the City of
Annapolis, on the day prescribed by the Constitution and
Laws of the United States to perform the trust reposed in
us and having voted and made out in due form certificates
and lists of the votes given, and the persons voted for, and
having confidence in ____________ of ___________,
have appointed and by there presents do appoint and
authorize him to take charge of one of said certificates and
the same to the President of the Senate of the United States
Washington.
    In witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands and
seals this seventh day of December Eighteen hundred & sixty-four.







    The said Credential was accordingly prepaired in due
form by the Secretary, and signed and sealed by the Electors.
    Whereupon the President delivered it, with the (third)
other certificate to James W. Clayton, with the direction
to convey it with all convenient dispatch, before the first
Wednesday on January next ensuing, to the President
of the Senate of the United States at Washington, and in
