143 James A. Buchanan (another of the Electors) to be by him conveyed and delivered to the Judge of the District Court of the United States for the District of Maryland. On motion of Mr. Carter the following form of Credential was read and adopted. State of Maryland to Wit, To all persons whom it may concern. Know ye that we the Electors of President and Vice President of the United States of America, duly elected in and for the State of Maryland having met at the City of Annapolis on the day prescribed by the Constitution and Laws of the United States to perform the trust reposed in us and having voted and made out in due form certificates and lists of the votes given and the persons voted for and having confidence in Philip D. Laird of Dorchester County have appointed and by these presents do appoint and authorize him to take charge of one of said certificates deliver the same to the President of the Senate of the United States at Washington. In Witness whereof we hereunto set our hands and seals this fourth day of December Eighteen hundred and seventy two. On motion of Mr. Buchanan, the blank was filled with the name of the Hon.
