The following Communication was received
from his Excellency Governor Wm. T. Hamilton
by the hands of James T. Briscoe Secretary of State
                                State of Maryland
                                        Executive Department
                                        Annapolis Dec. 1st 1880

Gentlemen of the
    Electoral College of Maryland
                                                    I have the honor
of transmitting to you Certificates of your election
as Electors as required by the act of Congress
and Revised Statutes of the United States.
                                                William T. Hamilton

On motion of Mr. Welsh the Electors then proceeded
to ballot for President and Vice President of the
United States in conformity with the requirements
of the Constitution and Laws.
Mr. Hopkins
                    Nominated Winfield Scott Hancock
of Pennsylvania for President of the United States.

The ballots of the Electors were deposited in a
ballot box which was delivered to Messrs. McNulty
and Hopkins who on counting the ballots
reported that Eight ballots had been cast and
that all of them were for Winfield Scott Hancock
of Pennsylvania for President of the United States
and that no other person had been voted for.

Whereupon it was declared that Winfield Scott
Hancock of Pennsylvania had received Eight
votes for President of the United States from and after
the third day of March next ensuing, being the
whole number to which the State of Maryland is
entitled.

On motion of Mr. Bowie the Electors proceeded
to ballot for Vice President of the United States
Mr. Price nominated William H. English of Indiana
