                                        1889.
                            Proceedings of Electors
                                           of
President and Vice President of the United States in and for the
State of Maryland.

On the Second Monday of January, being the fourteenth day of said
month in the year Eighteen hundred and Eighty-nine, the day appointed
by the Constitution and Laws of the United States, on which the Electors of
President and Vice President of the United States of America are directed
to assemble and perform the trust reposed in them, there appeared at
the hour of noon in the Senate Chamber in the State House in the City
of Annapolis (the time and place designated by acts of assembly fore the
meeting of said Electors) the following gentlemen who had been proclaimed
by the Executive Authority of the State to have been duly elected Electors
of President and Vice President of the United States in and for the
State of Maryland; To Wit:
                                James Hodges
                                Henry Page            At large

                                William Scott Roberts
                                James P. Berret
                                Willoughby N. Smith
                                Isaac Gorham Moale
                                Robert C. Combs
                                Hattersly W. Talbott

The said Electors severally qualified before Sprigg Harwood Esq.
Clerk of the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County by taking the
Oath prescribed by the Constitution to be taken by all civil officers,

On motion by Mr. Hodges
                                        Mr. James P. Berret was unanimously
chosen President of the College.  And was escorted to the Chair
by Messrs. Page and Talbott.  And addressed the Electors.

On motion by Mr. Roberts.
                                        Capt. W. G. Purnell Secretary of the
Maryland Senate was Elected Secretary.

On motion by Mr. Page
                                    A Committee of two was appointed
to wait upon the Governor and inform him of the organization
of the College.
