AUCTION DUTIES

The receipts from Auction, Duties for the fiscal year were

$13,129.08. The proceeds of these duties are received into

the Treasury and disbursed to the Corporation of Baltimore

city, under the 127th section of the IVth Article of the Code
of Local Laws, for the purpose of deepening and improving a
channel in the Chesapeake Bay and Patapsco River below Fort
McHenry.

The receipts for Licenses issued to Auctioneers amounted to
$5,900.

A detailed statement of the receipts on both of these accounts
may he seen by reference to Table No. 2.

NORTHERN CENTRAL RAILWAY COMPANY.

There was received into the Treasury from this Company,
during the fiscal year, the sum of $10,000 only of the $90,000
annuity due, in accordance with the provisions of chapter 260 of
the Acts of Assembly of 1854. In consequence of this default,
the Comptroller, as require by law, instituted legal proceed-
ings against the Company, and the eminent legal gentleman
Appointed by your Excellency, special attorney in this case, in
conjunction with the of Baltimore city, has
obtained a judgment against it, and an injunction restraining
the Company from applying the receipts of the Road to any
other purpose except to defray necessary repairs and expenses,
until the claim of the State shall first have been satisfied?

The quarterly payments the from this Company have been
regularly received up to about eighteen months ago, and it is to
be hoped that the Road will hereafter be conducted in such a
manner as to re-establish its character and relieve its embar-
rassments.

BALTIMORE AND OHIO RAIL ROAD COMPANY.

The receipts from the Baltimore and Ohio Rail Road Com-

pany during the fiscal year, ending on the 30th of September

last, will appear on reference to Tables Nos. & and 13 of the
