vii REPORT OF THE COMPTROLLER OF THE TREASURY.

over the amount received from the same source in the preced-
ing year.

Table No. 13 to 18, both inclusive, show the amounts due
to the' State from Clerks of Courts, Registers of Wills and
Sheriffs, and State Taxes remaining uncollected in the hands
of the Collectors in the several Counties and the City of Balti-
more, prior to and including the year 1892.

The last named Table shows amounts due from Railroad
Companies and other Corporations for State Tax upon their
gross receipts as assessed under Chapter 559 of the Acts of
1890, aggregating $15,531.54. These claims have been placed
in the hands of the Attorney General for collection, as they
have been contested upon the ground that the law authorizing
the assessment is unconstitutional.

Table No 19 shows in detail the special appropriations
that have been paid, the names of persons receiving same and
the Acts of Assembly authorizing the payments.

Tables 20 and 21 shows in detail the disbursements of the
Contingent Funds of this Department.

Table No. 22 shows the Condition of the Tobacco Fund as
required by Joint Resolution No. 13 of the General Assembly
of 1886.

The Receipts and Disbursements of the Commissioners of
Fisheries as far as reported is given in detail in Table No. -22.
Statements A, B, C, D, E, and F, Part II of the Appen-
dix to this report contains the returns of Emoluments of the
various officers therein reported.

In thus reviewing the various operations of this Depart-
ment for the fiscal year ended September 30TH, 1892, I have
done so without; extended comment, but I hope I have given a
comprehensive view of the condition of the State Treasury, and
I invite your Excellency's attention to the full and important
details set forth in the Statements and Tables herein men-
tioned and published in the Appendixes.

It is with great pleasure that I call attention to the valua-
ble and efficient services of the Clerks in this Department, and
my "thanks are due them, especially the Chief Clerk, for the
faithful arid conscientious discharge of their respective duties.
Respectfully submitted,

MARION DEKALB SMITH,

COMPTROLLER.
