REPORT

OF THE

COMPTROLLER OF THE TREASURY

OF THE

STATE OF MARYLAND

November 26th, 1928.
To THE HONORABLE,

THE GENERAL, ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND.

Complying with Section 9 of Article 19 of the Annotated Code
of Maryland 1 hereby submit my report for the fiscal year ending
September 30th, 1928. This report has been prepared along con-
densed lines as has been our habit for the last few years, and it
contains an accurate and true state of conditions. Complete details
are contained in our records and are available to you at all times.
This condensed form of report was adopted to save space and ex-
pense of printing.

We call your attention to the report of the License Inspector's
department, which is given in detail for your information.

We also make a part of this report a statement of the receipts
and disbursements of the motor vehicle fuel tax account covering
the two cents maintenance tax, the one and one-half cents lateral
road tax, and the one-half cent bridge loan, showing the amounts
paid to the State Roads Commission, City of Baltimore., and various
municipalities.

The co-operation between the various departments which make
up the Division of Financial Review and Control is producing satis-
factory results. We are receiving full co-operation from the various
departments, commissions, etc., who are reporting to our office, and
we believe that we are securing practically a complete record of
all receipts and disbursements on account of State activities.

We particularly call your attention to Statement "O" which
shows the assets and liabilities of the State of Maryland as of
September 30th, 1928.

As a matter of duty I am recommending, as in previous reports,
that a fire-proof vault of sufficient size to accommodate the valuable
records of the Comptroller's Office should be constructed for the
full protection of all of the records in case of fire or accident.

Respectfully submitted,

WILLIAM S. GORDY, JR.,
Comptroller.
