570 THIRD REGIMENT POTOMAC HOME BRIGADE INFANTRY.

After General Early's Army was driven out of Maryland, the 3d Regiment Potomac
Home Brigade Infantry advanced with General Hunter's Army into Virginia, and took
part in the engagement with the enemy at Snicker's Gap, Va., July 18, 1864.

The 3d Regiment Potomac Home Brigade Infantry then became a part of General
Sheridan's Army of the Shenandoah, and participated in the engagements at Bolivar
Heights, Halltown, Charlestown and Berryville, in August, 1864, after which the 3d
Potomac Home Brigade Infantry were again assigned to the department of West Vir-
ginia, where they remained on duty until the close of the war and the muster out of the
organization, May 29, 1865.

The 3d Regiment Potomac Home Brigade Infantry participated either by detach-
ments or as a regiment in the following engagements, viz.: Franklin, Va., May 12, 1862;
Wardensville, Va., May 29, 1862; Moorefield, Va., June 29, 1862; Harper's Ferry, Va.,
September 13, 14 and 15, 1862; Frederick, Md., July 7 and 8, 1864; battle of Monocacy,
July 9, 1864; Snicker's Gap, July 18, 1864; Bolivar Heights, August 6, 1864; Halltown,
Va., Augusts, 1864; Charlestown, Va., August 9,1864; Berryville, Va., August 13, 1864.

The death casualties in the 3d Regiment Potomac Home Brigade Infantry were as
follows: Killed in battle, one (1) commissioned officer and eight (8) enlisted men—total,
nine (9), died of disease, wounds, etc., one (1) commissioned officer and seventy-three
(73) enlisted men; total, seventy-four (74), or an aggregate of eighty-three (83).
