FOURTH REGIMENT
POTOMAC HOME BRIGADE INFANTRY.

aN attempt to raise the Fourth Regiment of Infantry for the Poto-
mac Home Brigade was made in the winter of 1861-62, but after
Companies A, B and C had been recruited for three years, no
farther progress was made.

Company A was organized at Hagerstown, Company B at Bal-
timore, and Company C in Frederick County.

After the completion of these three companies, they were
assigned to guard duty along the line of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, between
Harper's Ferry and Martinsburg, Va., until August 11, 1862, when they were con-
solidated with the 3d Regiment Potomac Home Brigade Infantry, Maryland Vol-
unteers.
