3816 ARTICLE 17.

assessment of twelve cents on each one hundred dollars, based on the State
and County Assessments, on all real and personal property situated within
the town of Cottage City in Prince George's County, Maryland, the money
derived from said special assessment to be paid to the Cottage City Volun-
teer Fire Company as long as it provides adequate fire protection to the
residents and property within the corporate limits of the town of Cottage
City, said money to be used by the said Cottage City Volunteer Fire Com-
pany for the exclusive use in its maintenance, operation, care and pur-
chase of new equipment, a detailed statement of the expenditures of such
money to be submitted to the Cottage City Commission by the Cottage
City Volunteer Fire Company in the months of January and July of each
year, the levy for said special assessment to be made before the first day
of July of each year.

306. The town of Cottage City and the Cottage City Commission are
hereby authorized, empowered and directed to collect the special assess-
ment provided for in Section 305 hereof in the same manner provided in
the charter of the town of Cottage City for the collection of taxes on real
and personal property.

307. Before this Act shall become effective, the town of Cottage City
and the Cottage City Commission shall submit the question of a special
assessment to provide money for the maintenance, operation and care of
the Cottage City Volunteer Fire Company to the qualified voters of said
town at an election to be held in said town as hereinafter provided.

The date of said election shall be fixed by the town of Cottage City and
the Cottage City Commission and notice thereof shall be given by adver-
tisement in some newspaper published in Prince George's County, which
has a circulation in the town of Cottage City, once a week for two suc-
cessive weeks prior to said election, and also by posting notices of such
election in at least two places within the limits of each ward in said town.

The ballots shall be prepared as ballots are prepared for a general town
election and shall have printed thereon the words, "For a special assess-
ment of 12 cents on each $100.00 of real and personal property to be paid
to the Cottage City Volunteer Fire Company for its exclusive use in the
maintenance, operation, care and purchase of equipment," with a blank
square opposite at the right of said words, and immediately thereunder
shall be the following words, "Against a special assessment of 12 cents
on each $100.00 of real and personal property to be paid to the Cottage
City Volunteer Fire Department for its exclusive use in the maintenance,
operation, care and purchase of equipment," with a blank square opposite
at the right of said words.

And in the event that said election shall be held at the same time that
the regular town election is held, said words and blank squares shall be
printed on the regular ballot for said election, and the officials in charge
