PUBLIC EDUCATION. [ART. — .

March, in each year, the comptroller shall apportion
the amount of school tax received by the treasurer
among the several counties and the city of Baltimore,
in proportion to the whole amount apportioned to
each by the state treasurer; and he shall notify the
board of trustees of the state normal school, and the
treasurer of each of the several boards of school com-
missioners of the counties and the city of Baltimore,
of the amount of tax due to each county and the city
of Baltimore, on the several days aforesaid, and the

treasurer shall pay the several amounts within ten days
after said notification, upon the draft of the president
and secretary of the several boards of school commis-

sioners aforesaid; provided, that no payment of said
tax shall be made to any county or the city of Balti-
more until after the organization of the several boards
of county school commissioners under this law.

Abatements,&c.

8. When the levy of any year shall have been col-
lected, the comptroller shall apportion among the sev-
eral counties and the city of Baltimore the amount
allowed on the levy for insolvencies and abatements,
and shall transmit a statement of the same to the
trustees of the state normal school.

Approved March 30, 1868.

It is further provided that this law shall take effect April 1,1868, provided, never-
theless, that the schools now in operation may be continued under existing authori-
ties until their successors are dully appointed and qualified.

SCHOOLS.

1868, c. 223 enacts, that the comptroller be and he is hereby authorized and
directed to invest in the bonds to be redeemed in fifteen years, of the trustee of the
Brookville academy in Montgomery county, yielding an interest of six per cent, per
annum, payable semi-annually, the balance of the fund arising f^om the sale of the
land scrip donated to this state for the benefit of agricultural and mechanical artB
which said fund remains in his hands unappropriated.

In force and approved March 28, 1868.

1868, c. 191 entitled an act to authorize and require the comptroller to correct the
errors in the distribution of the free school fund, accruing under the acts of eighteen
hundred and thirteen and eighteen hundred and sixteen, from the year eighteen
