On motion of Mr. Waters, of Dorchester,
Leave was granted to the Committee on Agriculture to
introduce a bill entitled an Act to regulate the inspection
and receiving of grain afloat in the City of Baltimore.
On motion of Mr. Bird,
Leave was granted to the Committee on Ways and Means
to introduce a bill entitled an Act to pay Thos. I. Hall &
Co. for a hogshead of tobacco lost from State Tobacco Ware-
house No. 2.
On motion of Mr. Naill,
Leave was granted to the Frederick delegation to intro-
duce a bill to repeal so much of the Act of 1874, chap 439,
to regulate the issuing of licenses for the sale of spirituous
and fermented liquors, as relates to Frederick county.
On motion of Mr. Loane,
Leave was granted to the Committee on the Judiciary to
introduce a bill entitled an Act to add two additional Sec-
tions to Article 58, Code of Public General Laws of Mary-
land, title "Lunatics and Insane," to be numbered 12 and
13.
On motion of Mr. Chaisty.
Leave was granted to the Baltimore city delegation to in-
troduce a bill to regulate the number and duties of Justices
of the Peace of Baltimore city, so that the number shall be
twenty-six, seven from each Legislative District, and five at
large, and to give the Station-house Magistrates jurisdiction
over all criminal subjects, and to pay them a salary, and to
confine the other Magistrates to civil business, and to require
a bond from all Justices of the Peace for a faithful perform-
ance of their duties.
Mr. Purnell, Chairman of a Select Committee, reported,
without amendment.
The Senate bill entitled an Act to give and declare the sanc-
tion and consent of the General Assembly of Maryland, to the
bequest of one thousand dollars to the Presbylerian Church,
at Newtown, Worcester county, Maryland; and also to the
bequest of one thousand dollars to the Methodist Church, at
Jacobsport, Coshocton county, Ohio; and also to the bequest
of one thousand dollars to the Lenton Presbyterian Church
of Coshocton county, Ohio, all contained in the codicil to
the last will and testament of John Gunby, deceased.
Which was read a second time.
Mr. Rutledge, Chairman of a Select Committee, reported
favorably,
