MAGRUDER, JOHN (1694-1750). BORN: in 1694
at "Good Luck," his father's dwelling plantation
in Calvert (later Prince George's) County. NA-
TIVE: third generation. RESIDED: at "Dunblaine,"
Prince George's County, which he inherited from
his father. FAMILY BACKGROUND. FATHER: Samuel
Magruder (1654-1711). MOTHER: Sarah (?-1734),
daughter of Ninian Beale (ca. 1625-1717/18) and
wife Ruth Moore. BROTHERS: Samuel (1708-?);
Ninian (?-1751); James; William (?-1765);
Alexander (?-1751); and Nathaniel. SISTERS:
Elizabeth; Sarah; Verlinda; Eleanor; and Mary
(?-1731). FIRST COUSINS: Joshua Beall (ca. 1719-
ca. 1796); Thomas Beall, of George (1735-1819).
NEPHEW: Jeremiah Magruder (1731-1798). MAR-
RIED on December 1,1715, in St. Barnabas Church,
Prince George's County, Suzanna Smith, daugh-
ter of Nathan Smith (?-1710/11), a Quaker and
large landowner of West River, Anne Arundel
County, and his wife Elizabeth Coale. Suzanna
was the granddaughter of both Thomas Smith,
an immigrant, and his wife Alice, and William
Coale, an immigrant Quaker minister, and his
wife Elizabeth Thomas. Her brothers were Philip;
Thomas; Joseph; Nathaniel; and William. Her
sisters were Susannah; Cassandra; Mary; Sarah;
and Elizabeth. OTHER KINSHIP: Suzanna's great-
grandfather was Philip Thomas (?-1675). CHIL-
DREN. SONS: Nathaniel (?-1785), who inherited
and lived at "Dunblaine," and who married Mar-
garet, daughter of James Magruder and wife Bar-
bara Coombs; Nathan Magruder (ca. 1718- 1786);
and Zadock Magruder (1730-1811). DAUGHTERS:
Elizabeth (?-1794), who married Richard Bur-
giss (?-1784); Cassandra, who married Henry
Hillary; and Rebeckah (minor in 1750-by 1753),
who married Benjamin Hall and died without

gruder (1694-1750), son of Samuel Magruder
(1654-1711). MOTHER: Suzanna Smith. BROTH
ERS: Nathaniel (?-1785); Zadock Magruder (1730-
1811). SISTERS: Elizabeth (?-1794); Cassandra;
and Rebeckah (a minor in 1750-by 1753). FIRST
COUSINS: Samuel Beall (ca. 1713-ca. 1778); Jo-
siah Beall (?-1768); and Jeremiah Magruder (1731-
1798). MARRIED by 1742 his first cousin Rebecca
(after 1724-?), daughter of John Beall (?-1742)
and wife Verlinda Magruder (?-1745). Rebecca
was the granddaughter of both Alexander Beall
(?-1743) and Samuel Magruder (1654-1711). She
was the neice of John Magruder (1694-1750). Her
brothers were Samuel Beall (ca. 1713-ca. 1778);
Josiah Beall (?-1768); Basil; John; and Clement.
Her sisters were Sarah, who married James Of-
futt; Lucy; Hannah; and Verlinda. CHILDREN. SONS
Nathan, who resided in Frederick County and
who married on August 15, 1790, Elizabeth Be-
