DURING LIFETIME. PERSONAL PROPERTY: assessed

value of property, Annapolis and Anne Arundel
County only, £1,642.0.0, including 42 slaves, 1783;
assessed value of Prince George's County prop-
erty £1,120.15.0, including 36 slaves, 1793-1794;
gave 8 slaves to his children and grandchildren,
1808. Ogle owed his mother an annuity, which
he was unable to pay regularly. In a letter to her
written about 1790, he apologized for the "de-
ranged state of my affairs" and said that he owed
her more than he was worth. LAND AT FIRST ELEC-
TION: ca. 4.744 acres in Prince George's and Anne
Arundel counties and 2 lots in Annapolis and a
house in London (ca. 2,177 acres in Prince George's
County and the London house inherited from his
father; the Prince George's County land was under
litigation in the Chancery Court but was con-
firmed to Ogle in 1774; 2,045 acres in Anne Arun-
del County acquired through marriage). SIGNIF-
ICANT CHANGES IN LAND BETWEEN FIRST ELECTION

AND DEATH: exchanged the London house with
Horatio Sharpe (1718-1790) for ca. 2,600 acres
in Baltimore and Washington counties and im-
mediately sold the ca. 2,600 acres to John Ridout
(1732-1797), 1782; sold ca. 1,100 acres in Anne
Arundel County in the late 1780s and early 1790s;
gave his land in Prince George's County, the
"Belair" plantation, to his son in 17% and put

his Anne Arundel County land into a trust for
the surviving partner of his marriage and his or
her heirs. WEALTH AT DEATH. DIED: on July 7,
1809, in Annapolis "after a long and painful ill-
ness"; buried on his farm near Annapolis. PER-
SONAL PROPERTY: owed his mother £8,858.0.0
current money. LAND. ca. 1,300 acres in Anne
Arundel County and 2 lots in Annapolis.

OGLE, SAMUEL (ca. 1694-1752). BORN: ca. 1694,
in Northumberland, England; probably second
son. IMMIGRATED: from St. James' Parish, West-
minster, England; arrived in Annapolis on De-
cember 2, 1731, as governor. RESIDED: in Eng-
land until late 1731 (probably of Newcastle in
1729); Annapolis, Anne Arundel County, 1731
until late 1742; Saville Row, Westminster, Lon-
don, England, early 1743 until early 1747; An-
napolis and "Belair," Prince George's County,
March 1747 to death. FAMILY BACKGROUND.
FATHER: Samuel Ogle (1658-1718/19) of Bous-
den, Northumberland, England, and Dublin, Ire-
land; a member of Parliament for Berwick, 1689,
1695, 1698, 1700-1702, 1705, 1708; commissioner
for the revenue in Ireland, by 1699-at least 1712;
died in Dublin; son of Luke Ogle (1630-1696) of
Berwick and Bousden. MOTHER: Elizabeth (?-
ca. 1697), widow of Thomas Dawson, of New-
castle, Northumberland, England. STEPMOTHER:
by 1701 Ursula, widow of Lord Altham, daughter
of Sir Robert Markham and wife Mary. BROTHER:
Luke (?-1735), of Newcastle, Northumberland,
England. HALF BROTHERS: George (1704-1746),
a writer and translator, who married in 1735
Frances, daughter of Sir Frederick Twysden;
Robert (ca. 1706-?); and Thomas (ca. 1713-?).
SISTER: Mary (?-by 1777), who married John
Broughton of Maidstone, Kent, England. HALF
SISTER: Meliora (?-ca. 1774) of Dublin, Ireland,
who never married. MARRIED between July 5 and
July 12, 1741, Anne (1723-1817), daughter of
Benjamin Tasker (ca. 1690-1768) and wife Ann
(?-1775). Anne was the granddaughter of both
Thomas Tasker (?-1700) and William Bladen (1670-
1718). She was the niece of Thomas Bladen (1698-
1780); Elizabeth Tasker (1686-1706/7), who
married Thomas Addison (1679-1727). Her
brothers were William (1713-1715); Benjamin
(1717 -1717); Benjamin Tasker, Jr. (1720/21-1760);
Bladen (?-ca. 1721); Bladen (1722-1723); and
Bladen (1730-died young). Her sisters were Re-
becca (1724-1822), who married Daniel Dulany,
Jr. (1722-1797); Elizabeth (1726-1789); and
Frances (?-1787). Her nephew was Benjamin
