lic General Laws, and impose a penalty on the Clerks of the
Circuit Courts, and of the Superior Court of Baltimore city
for issuing marriage licenses to minors.

On motion of Mr. Gordon,

Leave was granted to the Allegany county delegation to
introduce a bill for the relief of Geo. L. Layman.

Mr. Kessler offered the following:

Ordered, That the committee on claims be instructed to pay
the expenses of the committees sent by an order of the legis-
lature to Washington and Montgomery;

Which was adopted.

The Secretary of the Senate delivered the following bills:

A bill entitled, an act to provide for the compensation of
William A. Glanville, for certain services performed by him
in promulgating a proclamation of the Governor;

Which was read and referred to the committee on Claims.

Also, returned house bill, entitled, an act for the relief of
Matthew Burton, of Baltimore county;

Endorsed, "passed.by yeas and nays."

Also, a bill entitled, an act appropriateing a sum of money
to pay Samuel J. Pentz, (owner of the steamer Pioneer,)
William H. Hamilton, John Bird, John C. Bush, Jas. Cook,
Wm. Lynch, John Bradshaw, E, S. Thomas and Edwin
Street, with the following proposed amendment:

In the tenth line of the first section strike out the word
"and," and insert in same line after the second word "dol-
lars" the following words:

"And Levin J. M. Broad water, five dollars."

The House proceeded to the consideration of the amend-
ment;

When the Speaker decided that the amendment must first
be concurred in by the House; and the bill as amended,
passed by yeas and nays.

Mr. Ford moved that the amendment be concurred in by
yeas and nays, as the Constitution requires;
