Ch. 57 LAWS OF MARYLAND

FOR THE TRAINING OF INTERESTED MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC IN THE
IDENTIFICATION, INVESTIGATION, AND REGISTRATION OF
TERRESTRIAL ARCHAEOLOGICAL HISTORIC PROPERTY;

(11) PREPARE A LIST OF PRIORITIZED RESEARCH GOALS AND
OBJECTIVES TO GUIDE THE TRUST AND THE DEPARTMENT'S DIVISION
OF HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL PROGRAMS IN SELECTING
ARCHAEOLOGICAL RESEARCH PROJECTS THAT THEY WILL PERFORM;

(12) IN CONSULTATION WITH THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON
ARCHAEOLOGY ESTABLISHED BY § 5-624 OF THIS SUBTITLE, DEVELOP A
POLICY THAT SPECIFIES CIRCUMSTANCES UNDER WHICH THE TRUST
MAY DIRECTLY PERFORM ARCHAEOLOGICAL INVESTIGATIONS WHICH
HAVE BEEN REQUIRED IN ORDER TO COMPLY WITH STATE OR FEDERAL
STATUTES OR REGULATIONS ADMINISTERED BY THE TRUST OR THE
STATE HISTORIC PRESERVATION OFFICER; AND

(13) ANNUALLY FURNISH TO THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON
ARCHAEOLOGY ESTABLISHED BY § 5-624 OF THIS SUBTITLE A COPY OF
THAT PORTION OF THE TRUST'S ANNUAL REPORT TO THE GOVERNOR
REQUIRED BY § 5-607(B)(16) OF THIS SUBTITLE RELATING TO THE
TRUST'S ARCHAEOLOGICAL ACTIVITIES.

(B) (J) EXCEPT AS PROVIDED IN PARAGRAPH (2) OF THIS
SUBSECTION, NOTHING IN THIS SUBTITLE SHALL BE DEEMED TO
REQUIRE THAT ARCHAEOLOGISTS, OTHER THAN THOSE EMPLOYED OR
HIRED BY THE TRUST, SHALL ADHERE TO ARCHAEOLOGICAL RESEARCH
GOALS OR OBJECTIVES DEVELOPED BY THE ARCHAEOLOGY OFFICE IN
ACCORDANCE WITH THIS SECTION.

(2) ARCHAEOLOGISTS PERFORMING PROJECTS GOVERNED BY
STATE OR FEDERAL STATUTES OR REGULATIONS ADMINISTERED BY
THE TRUST OR THE STATE HISTORIC PRESERVATION OFFICER SHALL
ADHERE TO THOSE GOALS OR OBJECTIVES TO THE EXTENT REQUIRED
BY PERTINENT STATUTES OR REGULATIONS.

2-304.

(a) There is an Advisory Committee on Archaeology. It consists of [five] 7
members whom the [Director of the Survey] GOVERNOR appoints UPON
RECOMMENDATION OF THE SECRETARY, WITH THE ADVICE AND
CONSENT OF THE SENATE, from among citizens of the State who have skill and
knowledge in archaeological matters including representatives of reputable museums,
institutions of higher education, [and] recognized scientific or historical societies or
institutions AND QUALIFIED PRIVATE FIRMS THAT PROVIDE
ARCHAEOLOGICAL SERVICES. [A member of the Committee serves an indefinite
term. A vacancy is filled in the same manner as an original appointment.] The
Committee shall choose a chairman. [A Committee member may not receive
compensation for his services but shall be reimbursed in accordance with the standard
travel regulations for travel expenses and disbursements made in order to attend any
