ARCHIVIST OF THE HALL OF RECORDS 7

Appropriations for the next fiscal year have already been made.
For the biennium 1942-43 the legislature which meets in January 1941
will be asked for the following sums in addition to the appropriation
given above:

Archives Publication Account.......... ......... $5,000

Salary Increases .............................. 1,280

The attention of the Commission is called to the fact that $1,464 of
the funds allotted to supplies and equipment were used this past year
for the first time to give small increases in salaries. This transfer of
funds was made possible by a budget amendment which was allowed
by the Governor and the Director of the Department of Budget and
Procurement. In the Budget for 1940-41 these increases have been
incorporated in the regular budget which has already been approved.

As in previous years the business affairs of the Hall were cared for
by the Secretary and the Archivist. Their volume and complexity were
increased by changes in the budgetary procedures of the State which
were begun this year and by the considerable amount of record keeping
required for the WPA and NY A projects.

of the Local Arrangements Committee under the chairmanship of Gover-
nor O'Conor; the Archivist acted as Secretary. The Governor and the
Chairman of the Commission spoke at the welcoming luncheon, and Dr.
Barr acted as chairman of the final meeting. Most of the delegates
visited the Hall of Records, and in many cases their criticisms voiced
at that time have proved to be of much value to us. At the meeting
held November 12-13, 1940, at Montgomery, Alabama, the Archivist was
made a member of the National Council for the Society.

The Archivist and the Assistant Archivist also attended the joint
meeting of the American Historical Association and the Society of
American Archivists at Washington in December 1939. The Assistant
Archivist has also attended some of the luncheon meetings of the archival
group in Washington. During the course of the year the Archivist
