HALL OF RECORDS COMMISSION

No changes in the membership of the Hall of Records Commis-
sion occurred during the past fiscal year. The present members of the
Commission are listed below in this order: chairman, members of the
State government, heads of institutions in the order of the ages of
these institutions.

HONORABLE CARROLL TANEY BOND, Chief Judge Maryland Court
of Appeals, Chairman.

HONORABLE HERBERT R. O'CONOR, Governor.

HONORABLE J. MILLARD TAWES, JR., Comptroller of the Treasury.
MR. STRINGFELLOW BARR, President of the St. John's College.

HONORABLE GEORGE L, RADCLIFFE, President of the Maryland
Historical Society.

DR. J. HALL PLEASANTS, President of the Board of the Peabody
Institute.

DR. ISAIAH BOWMAN, President of the Johns Hopkins University.

Membership in the Commission is ex-officio; the chairman is chosen
by the Commission.

One meeting of the Hall of Records Commission was held during
the year, December 11, 1941. This meeting was held in the office of
Governor O'Conor, and in addition to the Governor there were pres-
ent Judge Bond, Dr. Pleasants and Mr. Barr. Various plans were
considered for the emergency care of records deposited in the Hall of
Records. It was agreed that the Archivist should prepare to remove the
records from Annapolis to specially prepared depositaries in Western
Maryland In the event that the danger of bombing should become
more acute. The meeting adjourned at 3:00 P. M.

Subsequent to this meeting it was discovered that the cost, the
lack of materials and equipment, and the inconvenience of travel made
the preparation of special depositaries in Western Maryland impractical,
It was then decided that the following substitute pkn should be fol-
lowed. Depositaries should be found in public institutions in the
relatively safe zone, a program of microfilming our more valuable
records should begin immediately, these films should be transferred
immediately to a safe place In Western Maryland, preparations should
be made to move the originals themselves on short notice.

account of how much has been accomplished in this matter.
