ARCHIVIST OF THE HALL OF RECORDS 5

HALL OF RECORDS COMMISSION

The Hall of Records Commission is an ex-officio body created by
Chapter 18, Acts of 1935. Its present membership is listed below in
the order of the antiquity of the agency or institution represented by
the member.

HONORABLE J. MILLARD T AWES, Comptroller of the

Treasury ............................................................................Crisfield

MR. STRINGFELLOW BARR, President of the St. John's

College ............................................................................Annapolis

HONORABLE GEORGE L. RADCLIFFE, President of the

Maryland Historical Society............................................Baltimore

DR. J. HALL PLEASANTS, President of the Board of

the Peabody Institute........................................................Baltimore

DR. ISAIAH BOWMAN, President of the Johns Hopkins

University ......................................................................Baltimore

One meeting of the Hall of Records Commission was held during
the year, on June 7, 1944, in the offices of the Governor at Annapolis.
This meeting was called by the Governor because the death of the
Chairman and the lack of a Vice-Chairman left the Commission with
no usual means of being called together. The first business of the
meeting was the election of the Honorable Ogle Marbury Chief Judge
of the Court of Appeals as Chairman. Dr. J. Hall Pleasants was then
named Vice-Chairman, and the Archivist was made permanent Secre-
tary to the Commission. An earlier action of the Commission providing
for semi-annual meetings to be held in April and October was re-
affirmed. The Commission authorized the Chairman to set the day,
hour and place of meeting.

The qualifications of various members of the staff who had been
employed subject to the approval of the Hall of Records Commission
were then examined. The Commission confirmed all the appointments
which had been made since its last meeting, and in order to shorten
