HALL OF RECORDS COMMISSION

The Hall of Records Commission is an ex-officio body created by
Chapter 18, Acts of 1935. Its powers and duties have been increased from
time to time especially by Chapter 755, Acts of 1949, the so-called
"Records Disposal Act"; Chapter 518, Acts of 1949, which provides for
the control of the microfilming and photostating of the records of other
agencies of the government; and by executive designation of the Archivist
as editor of the Maryland Manual.

The members of the Commission at the end of the fiscal year 1951
and their offices are as follows:

On the second day of the fiscal year the Honorable James J. Lacy,
Comptroller of the Treasury, died at his home in Baltimore. To serve out
his term Governor Lane appointed Mr. J. Millard Tawes, who was subse-
quently elected to that office in the General Election of November, 1950.
Mr. Tawes thus became a member of the Hall of Records Commission for
a second time, having already served during both administrations of Gov
ernor O'Conor. Mr. Tawes' duties have brought him in daily contact with
the record problems of Maryland. He was at one time Clerk of the Court
