were of military nature. Mrs. Helen Robinson donated four noteworthy
volumes pertaining to Virginia biography, history and genealogy, as well as
one relating to the history of turnpikes. Mrs. Robinson also made a gift
of $100 to our Library for the purchase of additional books, which was
certainly appreciated. Others gifts of note during the year included a
History of Rock Creek Parish from Mrs. Helen White Brown, a volume of
Allegany County Records from the Cresap Chapter, D.A.R., an index to Dorchester
County Bible, Baptismal and Marriage Records, from Miss Nellie M. Marshall,
genealogies of the Ames, Harding, McCurley, Mudd, Tracy, Van Deusen, Rohrback,
Vandaveer and Zacharias families, and a long run of the Daughters of the
American Revolution Magazine from Mrs. Charles H. Rawlins, Jr.We are grateful
for these gifts.

We purchased a large number of bookt from the C. Burr Artz Library
of Frederick including a number of general works on Maryland history. We
purchased two volumes about Charles Willson Peale and The Journal of Charles
Mason and Jeremiah Dixon from the American Philosophical Society.Other
purchases included two volumes on the Negro in Maryland, a history of the
1967-1968 Constitutional Convention, a history of Ellicott City, Steamboats
out of Baltimore and Divorces and Names Changed in Maryland by Act of
Legislature, 1634-1854.

There was a healthy increase in the activities of the Photo-
duplication Department which included 1,836 orders for a total of 12,505
pages, including some for office use, and 1,492 shots of projection
prints and 69,649 microfilm images primarily of archival materials destined
for our holdings.

Our Repair and Binding Department bound 44 volumes, repaired 22
volumes and laminated a total of 13,368 pages. A good deal of their time
was also spent going through the land patents, laminating and repairing
those which were in damaged condition.

Our Publications Program resulted in the publication of The
Governors of Maryland, 1770-1971, by Mr. Frank F. White, Jr., Archivist
III on our staff, which was a revision of Bucholz's work of the same
name with corrections and additions after 1908. The Thirty-Fifth Annual
Report appeared, and Miss Vanorny continued her work on Guide to the
State of Maryland.

The number of visitors who used our Search Room facilities
increased tremendously, reaching a total of 5,138. A great deal of these
were graduate students working on their master's degree. Because of the
great number of visitors, we circulated 31,195 records. We also had
many inquiries by mail, and answered 2,973 letter during the year.

Dr. Radoff continued as a member of the St. Mary's City Commission,
the Maryland Historical Trust, the Maryland Historical Society Publications
Committee and the Editorial Board of the MARYLAND HISTORICAL MAGAZINE, as
well as Chairman of the Hall of Records - Historic Annapolis Advisory
Committee.
